Due to the recent global financial crisis the selling of endowments took a turn for the worse with endowment buyers reluctant to invest in the market.

 

This situation appears to be changing with more people selling their endowments to the endowment traders than a year ago.

 

But what does this mean for the future of endowment selling ?

 

Although the sale of endowment policies to the members of the public to finance mortgages dried up a few years ago, there remain a large number of long term endowments still in existence with premiums being paid to finance the original mortgage debt.

However, due to the drop in bonus rates, the policy holders have been tempted to cash them in and switch to repayment mortgages instead.

 

This means that some endowment policies are being kept as pure savings plans so that one day when they mature they will pay out directly to the policyholder and not to the mortgage lender.

The policy traders believe that the selling endowment market will be in existence for about another 10 years or so, as this relates to the number of endowment policies still in existence and therefore capable of being offered for sale.
